People Who Help Us - Firefighters πŸš’πŸ”₯πŸ‘©‍πŸš’πŸš¨

This week, we have been learning about firefighters. We talked about how they keep us safe if there is a fire. Through videos, role play and small world toys, we have learnt that they drive a fire engine, wear a uniform and use a hose to put out fires. We have learnt lots of new vocabulary, including: fire engine, fire, helmet, siren, hose, uniform, and firefighter.

We have talked about how firefighters are ‘safer strangers,’ so they can help us if we get separated from our grown ups. A ‘safer stranger’ is someone who is wearing a uniform and has a name badge. We practised sorting people into ‘strangers’ and ‘safer strangers’ and explaining why we thought this.

We then had some special visitors - firefighters! They explained how they help people and showed us the equipment inside the fire engine. Some of us sat in the back of the fire engine and even held the hose! We got to hear the siren and see the flashing lights like in an emergency. We then got to have a demonstration of how the fire fighters put their uniform on quickly and talked about why it is important to have smoke alarms in our homes.

We have also been very busy creating some artwork. We dipped marbles in paint and then tipped them in a tray to create an interesting pattern. It was lots of fun!
